Inclusion of OpenSees was created by sb1966
Hi, all

I am a new member in the CAELinux forum and at present I am downloading the distribution.

First of all, please accept my heartful congratulations and gratitude for providing and using such a wonderful Opensource distribution. This must be serving the genuine needs of thousands of Engineers/researchers all over the world.

By the way, I would like to inform you all about another great opensource program OPenSees-Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation. (berkeley.opensees.edu). Over the years, OpenSees has become a globally accepted FE software particularly geared for Earthquake Engineering simulations of Civil Engg Structures, Geotechnical Materials (Soil, Rocks) and soil-foundation-structure interaction analysis. It is being used for Masters and Doctoral level works in Eqke Engg in leading universities all over the world.

The plus points of the program are: i) Free, ii) official user support through e-mail iii) implementation of a huge number of constitutive laws, iv) A huge no of element library, v) large no of soultion algorithms for Non linear applications, vi) easy extendibility due to Object Oriented C++ sources. The disadvantages are: i) lack of integrated GUI for pre and post processing. ii)although free for users and developers, it is copyrighted by regents, univ of California Berkeley.

Now, my opinion is that the CAELinux administrators should seriously think of inclusion of this software in the next release, which will help in use of this software in Eqke Engg. practice, thereby reducing the impact of earthquake disaster on global community by many fold, atleast in the long run. I believe, Univ of California, Berkeley will not oppose its inclusion, if contacted properly.

So I request you all to seriously consider the same and do something about it.

Thanking you all and with my best regards
