This is more for you computer guru's out there.

I am interested in running hydrodynamic assessment of canoe hull forms similar to the wigley hull tutorial and also later as shown here:


I have AMD A10-5800k (2 FPU's), 16GB RAM, 500Mb/s Read and Write SSD.

After doing some research it seems that using single threaded mode is as fast as parallel on this machine. The overhead for multi threads is greater than the additional computing gained by the second FPU or the lower memory bandwith of AMD would limit performance (AMD memory bandwidth is about 2/3 of typical Intel i7).

The AMD A10 series has some FPU functions that might not be available on the standard OPENFoam binary.

Would recompiling OPENFoam with flags set to make full use of the A10 instructions set give me a significant speedup of single threaded OPENFoam applied to my CFD of interest? How much speedup should I expect?
