CAE Linux+VirtualBOX General graphic issue was created by Emiliano Binotti
Hi All,
I'm completely new to CAE Linux installation and before using this beautiful collection (thanks for this developers!!) I was
trying to test it on Virtual BOX.
I receive some graphic errors with applications that I basically use in other OS (e.g. Salome MECA, Blender, FreeCAD).
For example errors in the reproduction of shapes, or bad flicker moving mouse and selecting objects.
I'm not an expert but I know that virtual machines don't take advantage of graphic cards.
Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks a lot in advance.
Here follows 2 different setup I've tried with similar results.
Hardware1
MacBookAir+Integrated Graphic Card
Hardware2
Laptop Samsung + NVIDIA GeForce540M
VirtualBOX setup
2 processors
RAM 2048 Mb
Video 128 Mb
3D Acceleration OK

Hi naiter,
I have also had problems with graphical display Salome-Meca using VirtualBox
Hardware1
PC windows7-64bit sp1 + Nvidia GeForce 8800GT
Hardware2
Laptop HP windows10-64bit + AMD Mobility Radeon HD5000 and Intel HD Graphics
VirtualBOX setup
1 processors
RAM 2048 Mb
Video 128 Mb
3D Acceleration OK
I solved the problem by using vmware workstation, or installing CAELinux as OS alternative to Windows on a hard drive partition.

Thank you very much for your response Jon64.
I will follow your suggestion tryin' it on vmware.
Then I'll jump to the installation on a partition.
I have been working for a period only with OpenFOAM and I'm curious to test the whole package.
Thanks again. See ya after the next steps

In the first PC I have a motherboard with BIOS and 4 x 400Gb HD, in one of these I installed CaeLinux2013 and Slackaware Linux. In the laptop I never created partitions it installed other OS, especially because mounts EFI, and Linux does not know whether it currently supports, and is a risk that for now I do not run, and there VMware use only.
