Tweaking the LiveCD: custom kernels was created by Cyril Brulebois
Hi folks,
I've been searching through PCLinuxOS forums and those, but I didn't find any answer to this question: what are the requirements WRT kernel settings, modules, and so on, in order to add a kernel to (or replace the existing one on) the LiveCD?
I've successfully used a 2.6.24 kernel from Debian, as well as one of the 2.6.20 series (a binary from Debian as well), just by copying over the kernel and its initrd, but when trying to compile a vanilla 2.6.20 with various patches and different settings, I only get a black screen after choosing it in the isolinux boot menu, that's why I'm wondering what I'm missing (and I'd like to avoid compiling everything “just to be sure”).
Also, I'd like to avoid using tools like mklivecd, and rather only touch by hand what is needed.
BTW, may it matter: I'm testing the generated ISO through QEMU and VirtualBox, not in “real” environments.
Thanks in advance,

Not really an answer, but still, that could give some inspiration to others having similar needs: I finally got a way to boot this kernel, using the stock 2.6.20 .config file from Debian then using “make oldconfig” in the patched kernel tree, so as to make visible (through “make menuconfig”) the options I need.
