CAELinux on HDD does not start was created by giulio
Ciao
I have installed CAELinux on a separate partion of my notebook
Dell Vostro 1700, 4GRam, Intel dual core
The installation of CAELinux spoiled my boot (originally a dual boot Ubuntu 7.10 and Vista)
Vista was refusing to run while Ubuntu ruan albeti crippled.
CAELinux booted but the graphical environment did not start
Throu a friend I managed to fix the boot, now Vista and Ubuntu run fine, apparently CAELinux made the kernels of Vista and Ubuntu try to load the configuration of CAELinux...
CAELinux still wont run
this the prompt after boot of CAELINUX
QUOTE
PC LINUX OS RELESAE 2007 (PCLinuxOS)
Kernel 2.6.18.8. text 5 on Dual Proc i686/tty1
Localhostlogin:
UNQUOTE
I proceed logging in with user and passwrod and the prompt is:
QUOTE
-bash: keychain: command not found
UNQUOTE
any clue?
thanks
JJ

Hello,
to fix the boot menu, you could also have used the redo-mbr script from CAELinux liveDVD. But you solved this issue already.
For your present problem, it seems that the video driver cannot be loaded correctly (the keychain error is not important).
Try to login as root in the shell and run "video" to configure your graphic driver manually. You can initially set it to X.Org VESA, with 1024x768 16bit resolution and test it.
When the config is ok, try to run KDE with the "startx" command.

It apperas the X.Org configuration is broken
I have tried to ffix it with VIDEO commando but to no avail
I will now try your suggestions
My video card is a nVidai GeForce 8600GT (IIRC)
on a 1920x1200 LCD
After VIDEO I am asked for a VENDOR (nVidia is there, by the GeForce 8 series is not present)
I will try and post my findings
thanks

Hi,
I tried to install CAELinux 2007 on my laptop (dual boot opensuse 10.3 and windows vista) via the live dvd. I actually wanted to substitute suse by caelinux After the file installation, i was expecting to be able to configure my boot manager, but the installation wizard just closed. As I tried to start my system, my boot was spoiled. I reinstall opensuse and I was able to access my os again. Joel you mentioned the redo-mbr script of the dvd live. Do you think it could be helpful for me. How to use it?
Can somebody help me?
Thanks
Stephan

Hello,
yes, the redo-mbr script can fix the boot issue.
But when the installer fails to go until the grub configuration step, it usually means that there was a copy error: either the disk is full (CAELinux = approx 8-10Gb) or there is an error on the DVD or hdd...
You can try to reinstall it, if the issue comes from a random read error, this could help.
Good luck
