As you know /opt directory is protected. In order to upgrade aster 10 stable, with the help of Joel Cugnoni, I used " sudo python setup.py asterroot=/opt/aster....(predefined aster director for 9.4)"
After installation i had no difficulty in configuration because aster automatically recognized older settings of 9.4 for 10.1.
You can choose two version of base after the action.
