Convert STL in solid model was created by Sebastien gregoire
Hello,
I have received a complex geometry in a STL file. Is there any free software that can convert this STL geometry into a solid model ? (could be on Linux or Windows)
Another point is that the STL file that I have received is a lot too accurate. It contains more than 600.000 surfaces. This amount could be reduced to 60.000 without loss of accuracy, but I do not know how to do this. If anyone has a suggestion...

If possible, ask to send a step (.stp) or iges (.igs) file.
Or ask the sender to create a stl file with a coarser mesh.
After the facets have been created going back is not an easy task...
