Varying mesh density was created by Stefano
Hi!

My objective is to study with Elmer the turbulent convection of air in a room, caused by the differences of temperature between the walls.

I'm starting with a 2D simple case.
The domain is a square, with 10 m long sides.
The velocity gradients are concentrated near to the wall, so I have to get a better resolution near the boundary.

I know that with submeshes it is possible in Salome to refine the grid in particular sub domains, but I'd like to vary gradually the grid resolution.

Is it possible in salomè?

Is this called adaptive meshing?

Thanks

Hi Stephano,

It is adaptive meshing.

You can adapt the density of a mesh by using the `Wire Discretization` algorithm menu for 1D discretization of a FACE and Hypothesis `Number of segments' with `Scale Distribution`.

Afterwards, in 2D, you select `Netgen 2D` Algorithm and `Length from Edges` Hypothesis. OK .

This supposes that you have created interesting EDGES and WIRES of your FACE in, for example, two parts of different length (10=8+2) before building the FACE ...

I join example picture and tree for the contact case of a cylinder against a plane, made of a square face (2 // of 8 and 2 length sides, and a wire made of 2 arcs (a small and his large complement)

Hope it helps !

Post edited by: Serge Montagnac, at: 2008/05/10 12:32
