unexpected geometry ... was created by Delalleau
Hi all,
I'd like to mesh a 2D-box which is composed of 6 different lines (4 for the top and down and 2 for the sides) with quadrangles.
When I'm using the Salome's "quadrangle preference" option it returns me an error that I cannot correct :
"Unexpected geometry. Face must have 4 sides but not 6".
I understand well what does it means, however, is Salome is unable to mesh such a structure ?
Is there is an other way to do so without cuting my box into two 4-sides sub-boxes ?
Thanks a lot lot for your replies.

Hi Alex,
you will either need to partition your face in sub-regions with 4 edges to use the Quadrangle meshing algo. Or you can use Netgen 1D-2D and set the option to generate Quadrangles.
Good luck

Thanks for your reply.
I've unsuccesfully tried the Netgen option (see the attached file) which ... well ... does not seem to work in my case study.
I have split my surface into 4 edges regions and everything is fine.
Something odd is that you can do the calculation on "n-edges" regular contours (I mean boxes for example) and not for irregular ones.
Well, everything is fine for me now, thanks again.

Post edited by: Delalleau, at: 2008/04/18 18:59

If you have n-edges but still the same number of elements on each "composite" edge, the Quad algorithm may work... but I never tried it!!
I will try to look at your Netgen problem later.
