packages.debian.org/source/sid/science/code-saturne
so it is in debian sid!
they set up a meta package which is a good way of organisation...
packages.debian.org/sid/all/science-engineering
debian-science.alioth.debian.org/debian-science-policy.html

I am quite poor, but can still afford a 64-bit processor. I've found that meshing consumes a lot of memory, and when doing meshes on a 3D part, things get cramped in 32-bit OS. The solvers usually run pretty happily on little memory.
I also find 8.04 troublesome for hardware support. It was the last 64-Bit Ubuntu to be a PITA for video, external monitors, and WiFi, but 9.10 is pretty slick.

The debian packages are most encouraging, but I am looking forward to 64 bit binaries. It is nice to see progress in getting these applications working in a manner that the host machine might still be still be used, connected to the internet, and updated.
