Salome-Meca vs commercial was created by hpon

				Hi,
Today, I use a commercial FEM tool. I do static simulations of complex models containing >20 significant parts. Material and geometric nonlinearities and nonlinear contacts are often required.
The CAD-models often contain fillets etc. that need to be removed or modified before the meshing.
Is it realistic to think that I can replace my current tool with Salome-Meca?
Regards,
hpon

It WILL take a great bit of effort to replace a commercial FEM pack. with Salomé-MECA, but you could do it.
With regards to the CAD part, well no, the geometry module currently in Salomé-MECA will in my opinion, make you terribly frustrated - it is simply not build for anything else than simple geo. creations and modifications. BUT you can prepare your model in another CAD program, export it and continue your analysis in S-MECA.
Code Aster and Salomé still have a steep learning curve, but if you are skilled in a commercial pack. you can probably pick up C_A pretty quickly.

				Thanks for your answer Claus!
I normally work with imported STEP or IGES-files. It's easy for the designers to remove holes, fillets etc. But I think I need to be able to slice, add and remove bodies in order to produce good meshes. Is that possible in Salome?
Apart from the preprocessing and steep learning curve, are there other things I should be concerned about?
