				Hi,
How many of You use Salome and Code_Aster at work in Your company? What generally do You simulate?
I'm considering implementation of the software in design stream at work. Cutting costs makes effective influence on buying commercial software, if you know what I mean...<br /><br />Post edited by: nodek, at: 2009/10/29 09:27

I see that I may assume no one is using it at work. Why to bother with running and learning it?

				Hoi Nodek
that is a fairly quick conclusion. If you donot give us time to respond, you could conclude no one will be using Salome/CA. But whether that is a valid conclusion?
I guess EDF uses it extensively whitin the company. And many more may do. But maybe they do not react here, right now.
Moreover, is a program only useful and worthwhile to run and learn if used within a company? I only use it 'at home' and find the invested time paying off in more insight in CAD/FEA in general. I find the learning curve for CA quite steep compared to other FE packages, though every packages has its own peculiarities. Salome on the other hand is more user friendly on first sight, but also has its own rules.
Though that is may personal opinion of course.

We use Code-Aster in my Consultancy office, mainly for nonlinear analyses (contact and other) where it is much better than Nastran (which we have licenced). Nastran and its Pre-/Post FEMAP are more quickly to use but limited in Nonlinearity. For meshing, FEMAP is better than SALOME, at least I feel so. FEMAP is more intuitiv, Salome is for people who like coding with Python..
Moreover, we offer Code-Aster-Courses and commercial support, see website.

Johannes Ackva

				Hi again,
Thank You for the replies. I see that every CAE software involves coding whether it is APDL in Ansys, Python in Abaqus and Salome/C_A or any other language in its specific environment. I also see that at least one company is using Salome/C_A, that information is worth a lot - will be an argument in talks with my superiors.
Best regards
