Another self serving post from me: I've spent some time today updating the famous Piston tutorial by J.Cugnoni, so it's more relevant to new users of SaloméMECA 2010.
Some things I've left out, and some things I've put in.
I'd like some feedback before I add a link next to the old piston tutorial on the wiki. Just for typos or if I've forgotten something along the way etc.
enjoy and regards,
Claus

				Hi Claus,
thank you for this great contribution. I wanted to update this tutorial since a long time but could not find the time to do it.
I think that your pdf doc is very clear and will be easy to follow, and also adding a small intro on the edition of comm files is great idea. Congratulations.
I just have a couple of comments though:
When importing the geometry, one should probably add an explanation about the units of length: Salome 5.x converts the 'mm' units of CAD files into 'm' to use 'm-kg-N-Pa' units in the analysis. One may recommend to check the bounding box of the imported geometry to make sure the units are as expected.
I read the document quickly and found just one typo on page 4: "select shade type Face" it should be "shape" obviously.
On page 7, when you do the conversion from lin. to quad., I propose that you activate the option "midside node on geometry" so that the quadratic mesh follows the curved surfaces. It should be the default option in my opinion.
Thank you again for this great document, and feel free to add a link to it in the tutorial section!
PS: Based on the suggestions gathered recently, I have planned to modify the main structure of the wiki to make thze documentation more acccessible...

Thanks - that's the kind of feedback I was looking for.
The hardest part of writing intro. documentation, is limiting one self and not explaining everything.
A bit about the conversion of units wouldn't hurt though.
---
Edit:
I added a bit about importing geometry, added a tick to Medium nodes on geometry for convert to quadratic - and I 'whored' up the document a bit with a watermark and some frames.
I'll link to the tutorial on the wiki now - looking forward to your changes to the wiki btw.
Two questions:
*what version of media wiki are you running?
*could you add .svg image format to the list of allowed file formats? SVG images looks much much nicer when scaled.
Regards,
Claus

				Hi Claus
Great!
The version of MediaWiki is really old: 1.5.8...
For svg, I have not tried by I don't think it is supported. Anyway, I have enabled ".svg" files in the list of allowed extension for upload and you can check if it works.
As you can see, I have worked on the Wiki's structure today.
It should be easier to navigate and find important documentation now, but the sections Doc:SoftwareName need to be filled.
Thank again
Joël
