Problems with CAELinux 2010 on Oracle Virtual Box was created by Ferencz Barabas
Hello,
At this place I want to express my gratitude to the development team. You've done a great job.
I downloaded yesterday CAELinux2010 and installed it in Oracle VM Virtual Box v. 3.2.8 r64453. I already have installed in this virtual Box CAELinux2009 and have no problems.
I can't say the same thing about CAELinux2010.
After starting Salome Meca 2010.1 and loading any of the modules (I tested Geometry and Yacs) salome and also ubuntu is doing nothing. For example I can't close salome and also I can't shut down ubuntu. To shut down ubuntu I have to close the virtual box.
Does anybody had similar problems using CAELinux in an Oracle Virtual Box?
Thanks

Hi
actually I am using regularly CAELinux from VirtualBox 3.1.6 OSE (running from Ubuntu 10.04 on AMD Phenom II cpu), and I have not seen such a problem.
Here is the config of my VM:
General:
OS Linux
Version Ubuntu 64bit
System:
Base Memory 2048Mb
Enable IO APIC
Processors: 2 CPUS, enable PAE/NX
Enable VT-x/AMD-V
Enable nested paging
Display:
Video memory 32mb
Enable 3D acceleration (!! important!!)
...
(all the rest is left to default values)
So I guess this problem could come from
1) not enougth RAM or video memory
2) 3D acceleration not enabled in VM
PS: on which system / hardware (CPU) are you running VirtualBox?

Hello,
thanks for your answer.
My host system is WindowsXP runing on 4 Intel Xeon W3520 @ 2.68GHz CPU's.
My settings are:
General
OS Linux
Version Ubuntu 64bit
System:
Base Memory 5120Mb
Enable IO APIC
Hardware clock in UTC time
Enable absolute pointing device
Processors:
3 CPUS, Enable PAE/NX
Acceleration:
Enable VT-x/AMD-V
Enable Nested Paging
Display:
Video memory 128MB
Enable 3D acceleration
And it doesn't work.
I make additional tests and find out that with disabled 3D acceleration I can run Salome without any
problems.
What do you think about this?
Best regards
