lofted volumes and gmsh was created by Jake
Trying out gmsh, seems that it's unable to do 2D or 3D meshes of lofted surfaces/volumes. I've been using Autodesk Inventor and exporting the models as IGES and STEP files. Seem to have more luck with IGES overall, but still neither can mesh lofted surfaces/volumes. Is there a way around this problem or should I start looking for another mesher? Thanks in advance.

Can you post your step file?
I think that the capability of SALOME to mesh a certain solid is not related to the type of feature that was used to build it. May be the problem is in too much little edges or a strong variation of cross-section in a certain region.
Let's see!
Ale.

I will post some when I get home. I'm pretty sure it doesn't like lofts made in Inventor though. I made a handful of models, and the correlation was lofts and failure.

By the way, I'm using gmsh, not SALOME.
Anyway, it seems whatever problem there was, it has been fixed in the nightly build version of gmsh. The stable version errors out when trying to mesh the following file (2D and 3D meshes).
Cheers to gmsh, it's a hell of a tool.

Didn't know you had to zip up files.

Sorry, I didn't note your need to use gmesh.
Actually, it seems that gmesh does not import correctly this shapes.
Then I did this:
Imported step file in Salome
Created mesh
Exported mesh in *.unv format
Loaded the *.unv format in Gmesh
Saved in gmesh format
Let's hope this trick is ok for you.
Regards.
