How to speed up mesher? was created by Radek Koneczny
Hello
I am looking for informations about speeding up mesh processing.
Due to huge mesh and Code Saturne to be used on thi I used Caelinux on amazon cloud with 64GB memory and 8 CPUs
Algorithm Netgen 1D-2D-3D is used in this case.
As I can see on System monitor all CPUs are used but not simultaneously. Is it possible to speed up this mesh processing?
Regards
Radek

Code_Aster release : STA11.4 on OpenSUSE 12.3 64 bits - EDF/Intel version

The mesher in Salomé sadly does not support parallelism.
The only speed-up I know and use when I mesh, is to omit 3D meshing until I have a satisfactory 1-2D mesh, that really saves a lot of time.

Hi
You can also temporarily disable mesh optimization in the options... this will save a lot of time to get a preview, but you have to keep it for the final meshing phase.

Thx, model is partly axisimetrical so i am trying to mesh it on small angle and then use mesh tools to make circular patern and merge nodes.
Do you have any suggestions or tips and tricks for merging nodes this way?
Regards
Radek

Hello RadeK,
Summary: Use TUI method, rather than the GUI method.
Expanded: If you are using a GUI method of meshing, then export a script (Dump Study); use a text editor to finesse the python script and then run the script on a new study. However, this method is complicated and requires ascending a steep learning curve; but the dividends are plenty - speed and the flexibility to run parametric studies.
