Problem with Salome 6.3, Caelinux and Virtualbox was created by Allan Holm Nielsen
Hallo
I have a problem with Salome 6.3 in Caelinux 2011. When I launch the GEOM module Salome freezes and I have to kill it from a terminal.
Any Idea why?
I am running Caelinux 2011 through Virtualbox 4.1.8 r75468.
I don't know if this problem i related to Salome, Virtualbox or the Graphics driver load through virtualbox
Best Regards
AHN
Hardware information:
Lenovo laptop W520
Intel I7-2820QM @2.3 GHz
8 GB ram
Graphics card NVIDIA Quadro 2000M / Intel HD graphics card
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
For virtualbox:
4 Cores set to 90 %
4 GB ram
Graphics card NVIDIA Quadro 2000M (locked through the NVIDIA control panel) I have tried both with/without 3D acceleration. Salome freezes in both cases. I have selected 128 MB video memory

I don't know why. But a similar thing happens to me when trying to run Salome 5.1.4 from a remote X terminal. When running directly on the console it works fine.

"Graphics driver load through virtualbox" most likely - they're shite as it is right now.
Can you run other 3D programs through VB?

I have no problems running paraview and paraFoam after running a OpenFOAM simulation, but more then that I haven't used the virtualbox for.
Any proposals on things I shoud try running to test it?

The problem most be related to Virtualbox, because I tried booting Caelinux on a Live dvd, om the same computer og there I have no problem.
I would still be happy if any know how to solve this problem with Virtualbox, så that I can run Caelinux in virtualbox

I apologise in advance for not being of more help...
I'm also running CAELinux through Virtualbox 4.1.10 on a Thinkpad w520 i7. After OS installation via the LiveDVD, I only installed the guest additions via the VB menu. I let the system update through the Ubuntu manager - I haven't specifically tweaked any drivers or attempted to get Optimus working (Bumblebee apparently does this quite well).
Salome has run ok, the geometry module has been fine. I had a few issues with disc permissions when running through the piston tutorial but that wasn't until the meshing and solving stage.
The only other quibble I've had (so far) has been an update error for the openmodelica omshell-terminal, signature verification keyexpired.
How about reinstalling on the VB?
