Hi Kees,
now something will be more clear. In my Version of Salone the field "Input Fields Precision" does not exist. Probably during initialization it won´t be loaded and gives some strange results.
On your computer do you use cae-linux directly installed from live-dvd?

right, that probably sets the default length to zero digit or so, and hence you cannot suppply any values below 1.0000.
I have installed salome5.1.4 directly from the download site from Salome.
I used to install CAELinux from here, but that has been some time ago. Shouldnot make too much difference though.
You could try and install Salome-meca from here. I am not very well in giving advice on crippled version. Maybe Claws knows, he usually knows
